City centers are often challenging for deliveries and collection due to narrow streets and traffic jams. Often has happened that a smooth flow of logistics was not taken into account in planning old houses’ shops and waste rooms.
City logistics means intensifying transport in urban areas by improving efficiency and aiming at reducing jams and harmful environmental impacts.
City logistics operations can be divided into four categories:
- intensifying traffic flows such as common storage and transportation, common loading centers, transportation planning, route planning
- fixed structures, roads and streets, stopping and parking, loading areas, technical solutions (low-emission and low-noise equipment)
- operational programs, regulations and licensing
- research, development of information technology and equipment for the needs of city logistics
